This is jazz. The style is very much like Miles Davis's Bitches Brew or Herbie Hancock''s Sextant (not like much of Hancock's other work). The sound quality is excellent and it is 49 minutes long....I wish it was longer....I love the music. If you are not a fan of Miles Davis or Sun Ra you may not like this.I really enjoy about half of it. The other half is just too way out there....a lot sounds like a band just tuning up....much like a lot of stuff Sun Ra does.It was produced by Trey Anastasio of Phish but it doesn't sound anything like Phish and Anastasio is pretty much in the background on this. Phish drummer Jon Fishman is also on the album and has a greater presence.Some of the other musicians are from the Allman Brothers and Derek Trucks Band.The real star on this album is Michael Rey who played with Sun Ra. It is the reason it reminds me so much of Miles Davis. But, there are other jazz musicians who really shine in parts.I can't believe they could only put out 49 minutes. I would love to hear more from this band. Actually I have...there is a bootleg on Youtube of a concert they played shortly after the studio album. But, the sound quality is awful and it does seem a little to far out there for my tastes. (I like many of the things Sun Ra does but others are just noise to me)
