The first thing you have to realize is that Wells is taking the reader on a completely different 'TIME-LINE.' There are characters that are mentioned from history throughout the novel, but the characters mentioned Do Not Coincide with OUR history.... thusly... THE WAR IN THE AIR OCCURRED ON A DIFFERENT TIME LINE than the one we all are now following. It is FOR THIS REASON, that some people who have reviewed this book commented that they thought the book seemed to 'ramble' at times. It really does not! ! The novel is merely a masterwork of science fiction that is intended to 'play' upon the readers intelligence ! The War in the Air is a RECOMMENDED READ for an H.G. Wells fan ! Realize though, the novel does not rate as highly as his more well-known novels like The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine or even The Invisible Man. RECOMMENDED READ ! ! ENJOYABLE READING EXPERIENCE ! !
