Description
Product Description The Damnwells are one of the most talented up-and-coming rock bands performing today. Formed in Brooklyn, NY just a few short years ago, The Damnwells quickly gained a following with their melodic, guitar-based sound. None other than Cheap Trick took notice and invited the then-unsigned band out on tour, while HARP magazine called their music "transcendently catchy...essential listening for everyone." The Damnwells have sinced shared the stage with The Fray, Los Lonely Boys, and the Old 97s to name a few. Their debut Zoe Records release, Air Stereo, features 13 pop/rock gems, including "Golden Days" and "I've Got You." Amazon.com Brooklyn, N.Y., pop-rock quartet The Damnwells came seemingly out of nowhere, cashing in an opening slot on a Cheap Trick tour into a debut album,Bastards of the Beat. While a sophomore slump weaves its way into a few moments of the hour-long follow-up record, the band's surging innovation (including horns, keyboards and strings) and uplifting melodies assures the listener that the music is all that matters. Whether he's crooning delicately over a gentle acoustic accompaniment ("Louisville," "Keep a Little Organ"), playing the part of piano balladeer ("Shiny Bruise," "Graceless") or belting it out over a driving backbeat ("Accidental Man," "Sell the Lie"), vocalist and chief songwriter Alex Dezen has established a complementary groove between country, rock and pop. Only the 10-minute final track "God Bless America" falls flat--complete with 1970s super-group excess-but by then it's too late to spoil the inspirational hooks and hummable choruses of this band still on the rise. --Scott Holter
