First of all, my introduction to this band was a live concert where they played a few songs from this album, so my perception of the music is biased. Most of the songs on this album have a really heavy chorus, followed by some weird stuff afterward, as well as a few interludes. The interludes stitch the album together, so it's really enjoyable to listen all the way through and you get breaks in between some really heavy stuff. I have no clue what he's singing about, but it sounds great. For me, the unique lyrics make the album all the better. Back to the music: These guys have a tone that is very notable. It sounds like the bassists is playing a fretless bass. Very low end on the bass; not a lot of high end poppy stuff, just really clean, probably some compression, but it's just not something you hear very much. The guitars are unique as well. The guitar solos are amazing and they are heavy and brief. The album flies by (what is it, 42 minutes or so?). I'm listing to "The Unknown Guest" right now and they are showing off all kinds of really heavy stuff, a lot like Opeth. Every few phrases, they do a music rest (Everyone stops playing for 1-second), then they jump right back into it. It's like being at a live concert, yet on album. Just so good and natural to listen to. It's like they are true musical composers like Bethoven, but just really loud.
